Invicta Dynamos’ head coach Karl Lennon has thanked his younger brother for his help in making the team tougher to beat.

Lennon’s younger sibling Anthony made 312 appearances for the Mos and the hard-hitting D-man is recognised as one of the club’s best ever players. This season he’s been passing that knowledge on to help the current crop playing for the NIHL South Division 1 side.

Lennon senior watched his side claim a 7-0 win over Oxford City Stars at the weekend and conceded just once in a big win against MK Thunder the following day - a goal that could have been struck off after being tipped in from over shoulder height.

Lennon said: “I was really happy for the team and especially for Owen Rider (the netminder) to get a shutout again.

“The defensive part of our game has been an area where we have spent a lot of time and effort over the last months and I have had my brother helping me with that as well too and that has made a big difference.

“Some of these performances now are starting to turn things around on that basis and so I am really happy about that.

“He (Anthony) has been part of the coaching team this year and as a player he played 10-plus years for the Dynamos. He was a defender and I was a forward. You could say I was more of a defender than a forward as I didn’t score many goals!

“He has worked tirelessly with the team throughout the course of the season and it is not just about the way we play but positionally where they should be standing, how they should be approaching certain situations in games.

“We have a lot of young defenders, we have a couple of good experienced ones, but a lot who are learning on the go and I think it is starting to show now, they are starting to learn what their responsibilities are a bit better.

“To have conceded just one goal across the weekend is really good, I am pleased about that.

“We were really disappointed to concede the one we did but it was questionable even if it should have been a goal, it was very high.”

The Mos now take a break from competitive action. They return to the ice on January 6 away to Oxford City Stars before a home game against Solent Devils the next day.
