Gillingham caretaker boss Steve Lovell on the 3-1 win over Rotherham United

A win over Rotherham was the best yet for boss Steve Lovell.
It’s his fourth game in charge, since taking over as caretaker manager, and the third time they have taken something from a game against a promotion-chasing team.
He said: “We had a good win at Peterborough and this one was even better because we know how well Rotherham have been doing and the goals they’ve been scoring.
“They aren’t top five for no reason at all. It was a really pleasing performance.”
The Gills went two goals ahead, scoring early on in both halves, before adding a third to scupper any hopes of a fightback from the hosts.
Lovell said: “The boys worked very hard and they defended well, which we knew we would have to do at times.
“We started the game very brightly, which was our plan, to get at them rather than let them come at us.
“We broke away a few times in the first half, we got a few chances and the goal came.
“They were going to have a spell when they were going to be on top, they are not towards the top for no reason, but we weathered the storm and got them again on the counter and scored two really good goals. I am very pleased with the performance and the result.”
