Medway Tri athlete Steve Beaney completes The Centurion North Downs Way 100 challenge in just over 24 hours

Steve Beaney started his The Centurion North Downs Way 100 challenge at 6am last Saturday and finished it just over 24 hours later.
The Medway Tri athlete finished the 100 mile continuous trail along the North Downs Way, which had a total climb of 10,000 feet, in a time of 24 hours 48 minutes, and after starting in 137th he finished 23rd overall.
From the 50-mile mark, Steve was allowed pacers to join him. Four members from Medway Tri, Deborah Hope, Paul Sparks, Rob Brackstone and Sarah Easton, took it in turns to run the next 50miles with him.
Steve said: “I can honestly say that I loved every minute of about 95% of it. Biggest thanks has to go to my pacers and crew for travelling around for me, reminding me to eat and cracking me up on the trail. Cheers Deb, Paul, Rob and especially my angel of a girlfriend Sarah.”
Five of club’s members took part in the Bridge Tri duathlon (5Km/20km/3km) at the Cyclopark last Thursday.
Nicola Lilley was the first female finisher, 11th overall, in 1:09:25. Nigel Lynch was ninth (1:08:52) ahead of Daniel Vidal Navarro (16th 1:10:59, Andy Pole (24th 1:15:50) and Ian Smith (29th 1:21:12).
Daniel Marsden and Darren Last took part in the Ocean Lake Sprint Triathlon which was run under British Triathlon Guidance and there was no chip timing.
