Hard work on the training ground is paying off for the Gills.

On Saturday they scored a goal following a set-piece for the fourth game running, against Port Vale.

John Egan steered a header into the net on Saturday from a corner, in the 2-2 draw.

It’s been something boss Peter Taylor has worked the players hard on at the training ground.

Taylor said: “We are doing a lot of work on them and the players are getting used to them.

“The players are confident after seeing they have had some success. They will try things because they have had that success and that’s good. We need those goals.”

Leon Legge scored twice in the previous home game, against Leyton Orient, both from set-pieces. But it was fellow centre-back Egan who headed home Gills’ second on Saturday.

“Leon Legge has looked so powerful at set-pieces maybe teams are concentrating more on him,” said Taylor.

“It might give John and other people more opportunity. John has won a lot of headers this season from corners but he has never been lucky enough to get one in but this one did.”
