Settled side paying dividends, says boss Steve Lovell after Gillingham move five points clear of League 1 drop zone

Consistency is key for the Gills according to manager Steve Lovell.
His Gillingham side extended the gap between themselves and the bottom four to five points with a late win over Wycombe on Saturday.
Lovell has made just one change to his starting line-up in each of his last two games and that has helped.
“I have been happy with the previous two games and it’s three now,” said Lovell.
“If you are not changing the personnel too many times then you are going to have consistency and that’s what we’ve been getting.
“We’ve been excellent, we have had two wins (against Scunthorpe and Wycombe) and a defeat at Sunderland where we should have picked up something.
“We’ll get ready for Fleetwood away now (next Saturday) and that will be another tough game but one which the boys will be looking forward to.
“A couple of wins lifts the club, it lifts players. But, to be fair, they haven’t needed lifting, they have done that themselves.
“You could see how much it meant to them when we scored the winner, everyone is together, we all celebrate together and we are one unit. I am really pleased for them and they deserve it.”
The Gills are now closer to mid-table than the relegation zone in a congested bottom half of League 1.
Regan Charles-Cook was the matchwinner for Lovell’s side at the weekend, converting a cross from Brandon Hanlan.
Lovell said: “Regan has been off with his injuries but has got back to full fitness in the last two or three weeks.
“He will be a big asset to us, going through to the end of the season, and I thought Brandon Hanlan was fantastic as well.”
Charles-Cook was a late substitute, replacing Graham Burke behind the front two.
Lovell said: “I could have put Elliott List on, played three up front and changed the system, but why do that when things are going well?
“I thought Graham was tiring a little, he didn’t have the game he has been having, he didn’t have an influence as much as he had been doing, so it was a natural swap for Regan.
“For him to score was a bonus and I am really pleased for him because he has worked hard to come back into contention.
“Brandon was excellent. He ran them ragged and for him to create that goal for his mate at the end was brilliant.”
