It’s been a fantastic time for me here at Gillingham, with this bunch in the changing room and to top it off, the fans have been top drawer with me.
I am not just saying it because it has been a successful season but I have never quite had a bond with a set of fans like I have had here.
I was successful here previously and maybe that has played a part. They seem to appreciate what I do and I can only thank and respect them for that.
They can see there are different roles in teams and I like to think I am playing
that role well and helping the team out. I am happy to do that.
I am not that fussed if it is not me getting the headlines, I know what I am doing and enjoying it.
One player I have always looked up to and admired is Frank Lampard.
He is a different type of midfielder to me but when I speak to him, he is a top man and only wants to help.
When I was young I knew him and I remember when on the Martin Allen Soccer School he came in as the professional footballer for a week. He took me under his wing for a bit.
I was young and he knew the family. He voted me as player-of-the-week in the tournament and did some bits with me.
I was over in Dubai with him in the summer and we had some good chats. He did some bits to help me in terms of where I was going to go next.
I was talking about America and he was going out there but at the same time he advised me that it was probably best for me to stay in England.
