Making my league debut is something I have always dreamed of. That came true last weekend, at Doncaster.

I only played four minutes in stoppage-time and didn’t actually touch the ball but to just get on and hear the fans singing about me, I was so grateful.

I know I need to be patient and after the game I thanked the gaffer for giving me the opportunity. I didn’t expect to get any minutes.

The whole experience was good for me, travelling and being on the bench. It might have only been a brief appearance but to get my league debut was the main thing.

It was a bit strange making my debut against Doncaster. I knew a couple of lads there from when I was with them for a few days’ training during pre-season.

They are a great bunch and a good manager and I wish them the best for the season. It was good to get out there with Gillingham and hopefully there are more experiences to come, there are some goals and I can show what I’ve got.

Hearing the fans sing my name was a bit surreal. Some of them in the crowd even put it up on twitter. The Gills fans have been brilliant since I got there.

They have supported me and I can only thank them and hope I can give them and the manager something back.

Before the match we had to do the usual initiation song. The new lads had to sing at dinner and I’m glad that’s out the way. I sang an Ed Sheeran song but messed up the lyrics a bit!

I’ve been working hard this week to win a place in the squad to face Bradford at home.

Since I put pen to paper, playing at Priestfield is all I have wanted to do, playing in front of the fans in a home game.

I will be doing my best in training this week to prove I should be in the squad. All I am doing is grafting on the training pitch, head down, trying to impress the gaffer.

Bradford just missed out last season and I followed them a bit because a good friend of mine – Josh Cullen – played there on loan.

He was there for the season and has just gone to Bolton on loan, from West Ham, who signed him on a three-year deal.
