Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh reacts to 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury

18:00, 28 November 2015

Justin Edinburgh had mixed emotions about leaving Shrewsbury with a point on Saturday.

He said: “I was delighted with the performance, no doubt about that, it was as good as we have played for a while but we are disappointed we haven’t collected all three points.

“We ran into a goalkeeper who was in superb form and we hit the woodwork. We are absolutely delighted with the performance but slightly disappointed with only taking one point.”

Cody McDonald levelled the scores in the first half, cancelling out Deji Oshilaja's own-goal, and Ryan Jackson put the Gills ahead in the second.

Shrewsbury fought back, however, to take a point.

“There were two terrific goals for us,” said Edinburgh.

“Their (first) goal came against the run of play and we showed good resilience. We asked questions and it was a great goal from Cody.

“It was a fantastic strike from Ryan and I just wish it had been the winning goal.”

Fighting back from a goal down to lead 2-1 was pleasing for Edinburgh.

He said: “We didn’t feel sorry for ourselves and we posed questions. The goal was coming.

“We kept the ball alive and our link-up play in and around the box, certainly just before half-time, was as good as we’ve been.

"There were a lot of positives to take and it’s a point gained on the road and it’s a start.

“Stuart (Nelson) has probably touched the ball twice with his hands and he picked it out the net twice, that is a reflection of how much we dominated the game.

“Overall I think it was a big improvement from last week, in terms of going behind and getting ourselves back in the game. I thought we passed the ball with a real purpose and looked really strong.”
