Time is running out to get your nominations in for the Medway Sports Awards.
There is now less than one week until nominations close as we seek to recognise the most consistent performers in the area who have excelled in their chosen field. To whet your appetite our focus this week is on the Unsung Hero category.
Here are just a small selection of the nominations already in for this ever-popular category.
Anchorians’ Hannah Price has been nominated for the progressive coaching style. She has developed from a player in their under-18 team to a confident coach who is committed to the club and loves her football.
Karl May is another making a largely unnoticed contribution. He has managed Chatham’s under-18s and 21s sides since the start of last season while also being a level 3 referee.
Tony Giles is well known in athletics circles after starting the Great Lines parkrun in September 2013, promoting an inclusive running group rather than a race for the hundreds who compete each Saturday.
Harry Whatrup (Medway Badminton) gives up his time to help the next generation of players. His quiet and confident manner reassures players of all ages in their ability to become the best player they can.
Dave Cooper is a stalwart of Medway Towns Rowing Club where he helps to keep the fleet of boats in good working order, as well as supporting junior, senior and masters rowing squads. He has been a member of the club since 1956, when it was still Medway RC.
Jessica Wheller has been with Jumpers Trampoline Club for over 11 years, now coaching and judging as well as taking part.
Caz Rowe is the administrator for Shi Kon Martial Arts and backbone of the club, organising all membership administration for the club.
This year’s gala awards evening will take place on Friday, December 12 at Rochester’s Corn Exchange with Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford the guest of honour.
