Gillingham boss Peter Taylor insists he will be taking Tuesday's Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match at League 2 side Stevenage seriously.

Competition rules insist teams must field more than half of the side that featured in the game before and Taylor is happy to play by the rules.

He said: “Nobody would mind getting to the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. It is a lovely day out for everyone so in that respect most teams would take it seriously.

“Of course, in our case, there are a lot of players here who have played quite a lot of football and you wouldn’t mind giving them a rest but I think the way we are, we just have to get on with it.

“We will take it seriously, without a doubt.”

And Taylor won’t want to see his side go off the boil after a positive showing against Newcastle in last week’s League Cup and a dominant performance against Crewe at the weekend.

He said: “We don’t want to go to Stevenage and have a poor performance again and then get a little negative before Friday (against Coventry).

Doug Loft (Achilles) and Amine Linganzi (hamstring) are both set to miss out again.
