Gillingham are halfway through an experimental fitness regime and it’s going well, according to boss Peter Taylor.
The Gills have been working with local fitness specialist Carl Miller since the departure of the club’s fitness coach James Russell.
Miller was asked to come in, initially for six weeks, unpaid, to look at the club’s fitness strategies and try to improve what was already there.
“He has been coming in on no payment and has looked and observed a lot of things,” said Gills boss Taylor.
“He has been serious with the players and I have enjoyed watching him work with them.
Recent performances certainly suggest the Gills are a fit team, after scoring late goals in each of their last four matches.
Taylor said: “Results make you feel better anyway, as a player. If you get a result, all of a sudden you feel fitter but is it a coincidence that now we are scoring so late? You don’t know.
“If you are on your knees, then I am not sure you can do that. Looking at our fitness levels at the minute, they are looking pretty good."
