A player who had a trial at Gillingham earlier this year has just completed a move to League 1 Peterborough United.

David Kamara, 18, has joined Posh from Welling United and will link up with the London Road under-21’s team after agreeing a two-year contract.

Striker Kamara attracted plenty of interest during his time with the Wings, including the Gills, who in February had him in for a trial. He played in a match for their B Team.

He had apparently also been attracting interest from Luton Town at the time too. Nothing came of his brief spell with the Gills, however, and he remained at National South side Welling.

Kamara’s chance has now come with Peterborough, a club with a track record of developing young talent.

Peterborough also took a punt on defender Emmanuel Fernandez in 2021, after he was released by the Gills, playing 18 games for them last season including a handful of appearances in League 1.

The club will also now be hoping to nurture Kamara, signing him up after a successful trial.

Kamara, in an interview with his new club, said: “I think it can be a bit of a cliché, but the hard work starts now for me, the coaches at Welling said that and it is true.

“Making your debut or scoring your first goal is obviously a great moment, but it is what comes next.

“I had some great times at Welling, scoring my first goal was something I will never forget, it didn’t feel real.

“It was great to be at the (Peterborough) training ground with my family, they have really helped me and when I told my Mum that I had been offered a deal, she just started screaming. I was like ‘Mum, the neighbours’! She was obviously very happy for me.”
