Gillingham have today signed goalkeeper Jonathan Bond on loan until the beginning of January.
The 23-year-old arrives from Reading, and trained with his new team-mates at Beechings Cross on Friday morning.
Gills boss Justin Edinburgh said: “With the window closing next week, I wanted to act quickly and add another senior player into the squad.
“Reading made us aware that Jonathan was available, and we’re delighted to bring him into the football club.
“He’s a player of Championship ability, he’s been capped by the England under-21s and adds to the competition for places within the group.
“Once again, I’ve been backed by the chairman, and I’m sure every Gills fan thanks him for the commitment and dedication he’s shown in our desire to have a good season.”
The six-foot-four Englishman becomes the third senior goalkeeper at the club, and will be fighting for a place in the starting XI with Stuart Nelson and Tom Hadler..
Bond said: "It’s a good opportunity to join a good club, and help them in their aim of going better than last season,” he said.
“The desire of everybody involved to challenge for promotion was a big part in me coming here.
“I’ve joined a good group of players, there’s a lot of quality within the team and many players who I know the fans are proud of.
“Any goalkeeper wants to be selected for every game. Playing matches is one of the reasons I’m here, although I’ll take nothing for granted.”
Bond came through Watford’s academy system and made his debut for the Hornets against Portsmouth in a Championship fixture on January 2, 2012. He made a total of 33 appearances for the Hertfordshire club, including their FA Cup fixture against Manchester City in 2013.
He joined Reading on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee in July 2015, and made 14 appearances in the Championship last season.
Bond, who previously represented Wales, has been capped at England under-20 and 21 level.
