Tuesday’s game might have been great for the neutral, but letting four goals in hurts.

Letting one in hurts - there were goals that could have been prevented.

It is just about that transitional play that when we lose the ball, we need to have shape to ourselves. We are left open.

Attacking play is good, but we need to be able to lock down all over the pitch in defence. We haven’t had a lot of time to work on the shape but hopefully we can put it right.

As we all know, the club are looking for a new manager. As a player you have to get your head down and make sure your attitude is good, train well and impress whoever is going to take the job.

When I was coming through at Sunderland between 16 and 21, I saw a few different managers. There was Steve Bruce, Martin O’Neill, Paolo Di Canio and Gus Poyet. I got to know what goes on.

I was training with Bruce and O’Neill at Sunderland but when the two of those got sacked, I got kind of left out in the cold. I had a bad injury as well, which didn’t help.

The goal now is to play well and be recognised for playing well. I don’t let things off the pitch affect me and I just want to keep going onto the training pitch and improve.

A new contract was only briefly mentioned to me a couple of months ago. There hasn’t been a lot of negotiation.

I just have to keep my head down, play well and get my football right on the pitch, then everything takes care of itself.
