Defender Jack Tucker confident League 1 play-offs are within Gillingham's reach

Gillingham emerged with a point from another tough fixture on Saturday and defender Jack Tucker is confident they can get in amongst the play-off race.
The Gills are just six points adrift following their 1-1 draw with Oxford United, but are eight games unbeaten in League 1.
Tucker said: “We are just off the play-offs, it is going to take another good few weeks to get us right in the mix, but you wouldn’t write us off at the moment with the way we are playing.
“We haven’t lost in a while and there is a positive mindset. We are only looking up. If we can keep this run going then I am sure we will be in and amongst it.”
Just like in recent games against Fleetwood and Portsmouth, the Gills came from a goal down to claim a share of the spoils.
“It seems like we are always in games, even against the best teams,” Tucker said.
“We know how to stay in a game and we also have the qualities to hurt those teams.
“First half (on Saturday) we weren’t at it, we all know it and I am sure the fans could see it. We didn’t play how we had been playing in recent weeks but we had a good reaction second half.
“It still wasn’t the prettiest of games to watch and play in, we made sure we dug in and we don’t know when we are beaten at the moment. We have come back a few times when we’ve been behind, which is a good trait to have if you are going to be challenging for the play-offs, which is where we want to be.
“I don’t think we deserved the three points, we know we can play better than that and apply ourselves better, but we didn’t lose, which is a positive, and we kept that run going.”
It was a big improvement at least on the 3-0 defeat to Oxford earlier in the season at the Kassam Stadium.
“It shows how far we have come,” said the young centre-half.
“At the start of the season we weren’t where we needed to be, whether that was taking a bit of time to gel with the new faces or not, we don’t know. But we have had time to settle now and hopefully a couple of new faces coming in over the window will strengthen us.
“We have come a long way if we are giving good sides like Oxford a game and pushing them. In the end it could have gone either way.”
