The Gills will hope it’s nothing serious as O’Keefe has been in top form of late.

On a day when O’Keefe went off injured, at least Gills boss Neil Harris was able to return two other midfielders to the squad.

Ben Reeves was back from injury and Dan Phillips returned from a three-game ban. Both came off the bench to help the Gills see out the game against Accrington.

“I was delighted to have Ben Reeves back,” said the Gills boss.

“It was great for him to get 10-12 minutes at the end and for him to be part of a winning team at the final whistle and just to have his experience on the pitch. There's so much more to come from Ben, quality wise, but to have his experience on the pitch at the end was really pleased.”

Phillips - back in the team after serving a suspension for his third red card of the season - sent in a high ball forward that Vadaine Oliver nodded in the for the second goal of the afternoon.

Harris said: “It wasn’t his finest of balls and he is technically a very good player, but he gets an assist and it is great for him to get minutes after not being involved in the last three.

“Me and Dan had a chat last week and he is absolutely fine now, he is a terrific young man and really popular in the group. I am sure he has a long career in front of him in the game.

"It was a different sort of game. The physicality of the game was different, Dan wasn’t going to have a lot of time on the ball to switch play like he wants to do, it was about doing the other side of the game and he did it.”
