Chatham proved age is no barrier after two vastly-experienced forwards helped them bounce back with a victory at Haringey Borough on Saturday.

Second-placed Isthmian Premier Chats, beaten 3-2 at Canvey Island last Tuesday, found their rhythm again as they defeated basement boys Haringey 3-0.

While Borough only have eight points from 18 games, Chatham boss Kevin Hake suggested they are much better than their league position suggests.

But Ben Allen put Chatham on their way with a sixth-minute opener while former Gillingham loan striker Chris Dickson then struck twice. Hake felt player-assistant Danny Kedwell was equally as influential. The duo have a combined age of 78.

“There are no easy wins in this league and Haringey are no exception,” Hake said.

“They attack very well on the counter and have picked up some great results, albeit they haven’t turned their draws into wins yet. They are certainly not the worst team we've played and I expect them to get out of trouble.

“We knew we had to match them and we got an early goal from Ben Allen, which set us on our way.

“Dicko and Keds were a thorn in the side for them all afternoon and I thought they worked well as a pair.

“We challenged Ben (Bridle-Card, their goalkeeper) and his defence to keep a clean sheet - and they responded to the challenge well.”

Next up for Chats is a home match against a much-changed Hastings side this Saturday. The visitors sit just outside the play-off positions, having re-appointed Chris Agutter as Paul Barnes’ successor in October.

Hake, whose team are also due to visit Horsham in the league on Tuesday, hopes to see another bumper crowd at the Bauvill Stadium.

He said: “We now face Hastings on Saturday who are in good form, so it's set up to be another great day at the Bauvill Stadium.

“Our supporters have been great all season, and both home and away support is growing. We are saying to the players that we are now at a level where any one per cent advantage we can gain can really make the difference.

“Our supporters contribute greatly to this and, with Hastings bringing good support, it will only add to the atmosphere.”
