Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh believes the League 1 title is still up for grabs

Gillingham are still in the hunt for the League 1 title, according to manager Justin Edinburgh. A midweek defeat for leaders Burton keeps the Gills five points adrift of top spot.
Edinburgh’s men are back on home soil on Saturday when they face Chesterfield, looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat at Oldham.
And Edinburgh still has his eyes set on the division’s summit.
He said: “Monday night’s game (which Burton lost 3-1 at Southend) shows how quickly things can turn around. They could have been eight points clear and near enough out of sight.
“That result has opened it all up again. For ourselves, Wigan and Walsall, that was the best case scenario.
“While we have as many games left as we have, yes (it is up for grabs). If we get down to single figures and the gap is still that big, then maybe not.
“There is an outside chance for us but it is certainly an achievable one. Mathematically, we can do it.”
Edinburgh’s focus will be back on his own team this weekend and getting their form back on track. Poor results away from home mean the Gills have only won two of their last seven overall in League 1.
He said: “We have to make sure we are focused and handle our own situation."
