Gillingham’s League 2 game at Stockport County on Saturday has been called off.
Parts of the pitch at Edgeley Park remain frozen despite the club’s best efforts to prepare a playable surface. With sub-zero temperatures over the last few days and icy conditions again tonight, an early decision has been made.
It’s a decision that prevents the Gills and their fans from a wasted journey north.
It’s the second successive match for Gillingham that has fallen victim to the weather after their home game against Bradford City last Sunday was also postponed.
A new date for the two fixtures are to be announced at a later date. Gillingham also have to rearrange their home match with Crewe on Saturday, January 7 as they are playing Leicester City that day in the FA Cup.
Gillingham’s next match is now against Premier League Wolves on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup.
