Gillingham’s Carabao Cup date with Premier League Wolves has been confirmed as boss Neil Harris has his say on the draw.

The Gills will head to Molineux for their fourth round match on Tuesday, December 20 with a 7.45pm kick off.

It will be a first match in charge for new Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui after he officially started his job as manager on Monday. The visit of Gills will be their opening match following the return to action after the World Cup.

Wolves head into the break sitting bottom of the Premier League with just eight goals scored, losing 2-0 at home to Arsenal last time out. Only Gillingham - third bottom in League 2 - have a worse scoring record from the 92 English league clubs, with just six goals scored.

New Wolves boss Lopetegui could certainly have harder first games in charge. He starts a new chapter after previously managing the Spanish national team as well as stints at Porto, Real Madrid and most recently Sevilla.

Gills boss Neil Harris was hoping for a home draw but instead his side will be on the road hoping to create another upset, having dumped Premier League Brentford out of the third round.

Commenting on the draw, Harris said: “Would it have been high up on my agenda out of the 15 other teams (in the draw) to play Wolves away? No.

“I think Wolves will be absolutely delighted won’t they?

“Their new manager, ex manager of Spain and his first game in charge is against lowly Gillingham!

“We will know nothing about them and what they are going to do, they will know everything about us, so it gives us even less chance of winning, but we showed by winning at Brentford that we are capable of doing it.

“We have a lot of business to take care of between now and then, it is an opportunity to go away to another Premier League ground, and have a go.”

Wolves beat Leeds United in round three 1-0. It’s the first time Gills have been to the fourth round since the 1996/97 season. They have been no further in the competition.

Gillingham say ‘ticketing information for the game will follow in due course.” Harris’ men were backed by 2,163 Gills fans for the third round match at Brentford which they won on penalties after the game ended 1-1.

Gills have also announced an earlier kick off time for their home match against Salford on Saturday, December 3. That game at Priestfield is now a 12.30pm start to avoid a potential clash in the World Cup. England could be playing a knockout fixture that day.

Next up for the Gills is a first round FA Cup replay against non-league AFC Fylde tonight (Tuesday) at Priestfield.
