A unique opportunity to abseil from a landmark building in Canterbury's city centre is to take place.
The Premier Inn hotel and restaurant which celebrates its first year of operations this autumn will host the KM Abseil Challenge being staged by the charity department of this newspaper on Saturday, November 1.
The building was constructed on the site of the former Blockbuster Video outlet which dominated the New Dover Road entrance to the city for more than a decade. Now the new building will help to raise vital funds for dozens of good causes in the district as part of its anniversary celebrations in November.
Max Tanner, Operations Manager at Premier Inn, said the 120 bed hotel was proud to work with KM to support the local community.
He said: "All the causes being supported are important to the city and I am particularly keen on the KM's own in-house cause which develops children's road safety skills. Supporting this event is a great way for Premier Inn to celebrate its first anniversary in Canterbury."
A number of staff from Premier Inn are planning to take part in the abseil with Great Ormond Street the expected beneficiary.
To take part is simple. Visit the website www.kmcharityteam.co.uk and click on the event booking tab. Abseilers will share the sponsorship they raise with 70 per cent going to the good cause of their choice and 30 per cent going to the KM Charity Team's road safety work with children.
Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: "Staging collaborative fundraising events such as this abseil are an important part of our service to the community. I hope many local good causes, charities and PTAs will use the abseil on November 1 to raise funds for themselves."
