Billed as Kent’s dirtiest day out, the KM Assault Course Challenge lived up to its name on Saturday as teams crawled through mud to complete the course.
Twenty eight teams of six took part in the annual challenge staged by the KM Charity Team raising £10k for 19 good causes.
The Dad’s Army team from Thanet Fit Club recorded the fastest time completing the 19 obstacles on Kent’s longest civil assault course in a time of 5min 52sec. Event sponsors Qube Recruitment and KM Security Solutions from Medway came fourth with a time of 7min 18sec.
The KMFM team that included presenters Garry Wilson, Emma Adam, Rob Wills and Nicola Fletcher recorded a very respectable time of 8min 41sec.
The highest group fundraisers were the Going Postal team from Thanet who raised £1,177 for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, Richard Sokell was the highest individual fundraiser with £781, also for the air ambulance. The youngster participant was Luis Corner, 11, of Dartford who competed for Stacey’s Smiles and the oldest team member was 61 year old Trish Wagg of Thanet taking part to support Oasis domestic abuse charity.
Simon Dolby from the event team thanked Betteshanger Park for hosting the challenge and Kent Women in Business for sponsoring the event. He said: “The course was particularly muddy thanks to the showers on the day, ensuring many teams ended up covered from head to foot in mud, but it all added to the fun.”
Charities and organisations involved included: Benenden Health Trust, Carers Support, Thanet Fit Club, Porchlight, Strode Park, SEK, Canterbury Umbrella, Canterbury Relate, Martha Trust, SATEDA, Birchington Medical Centre, Samaritans, North Kent Disabled Foundation, Stacey’s Smiles, NHS England, Kent Air Ambulance, Real Deal FC and Qube Recruitment.
