Lashings of money raised for brain tumour charity

CELEBRITY-filled cricket matches followed by a champagne reception and dinner has raised about £20,000 for the UK Brain Tumour Society.

The Lashings Charity Ball was hosted by the Maidstone-based Lashings World Cricket Club and featured famous sportsmen, including Derek Underwood, Phil Tuffnell and Henry Olonga.

Matches were played at the Mote Cricket Club's ground in with Lashings taking on an Old England X1 and members of Bunbury's Celebrity Cricket Club, run by former Bee Gees manager, Dr David English.

Heading up the Old England 11 was Alan Igglesden, patron of the UK Brain Tumour Society, who himself has a brain tumour.

Afterwards, players retired to the Ramada Hotel and Resort at Hollingbourne for a champagne reception followed by dinner.

Brain tumour society spokeswoman Anne-Marie Dickinson said: "Everyone was nursing heavy heads in the morning, but we all had a good time."

The event was the brainchild of Lashings CC co-owner Gary Pankhurst.
