Children at St Thomas RC Primary School won a trip to meet Father Christmas at Whitefriars in Canterbury.

The year 1 class were crowned the city’s green travel champions for their commitment to the KM Walk to School campaign and earned the chance to visit Santa at the recently opened Whitefriars Christmas market.

The popular initiative persuades children and their parents to leave the car behind and use green alternatives to make their way to the school gates.

Peter Scutt, Whitefriars center manager, was there to see the children receive their reward and said: “This scheme is so important for the county and Canterbury in particular, trying to do something about our environment and all the traffic levels on our roads and the health of children is vital.”

Devised by the KM Charity Team the Walk to School initiative is supported by Kent County Council, Medway Council, Eurostar, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling, Gallaghers Aggregates, Specsavers, Bel UK, Whitefriars and Orbit.
