Kent schools receive awards for green travel and literacy in the KM Charity Team Silver Blades Challenge.

Schools from across the region received awards for being top or most improved for reading or walking to school.

The Silver Blades Challenge staged by the educational charity KM Charity Team enabled classes to celebrate after being named as the best in their district council areas. Schools using Buster's Book Club, the popular inter-class and inter-school reading initiative, and Super Wow and Green Footsteps, the county's official walk to school schemes, competed for top honours.

More than 60,000 pupils were involved in the challenge with representatives of 15 schools invited to Silver Blades ice skating rink to receive goodie bags and certificates for being named winners.

The initiatives are supported by Orbit housing association, Golding Homes, Bel UK, Specsavers, Eurostar, Gallagher Aggregates, Countrystyle Recycling, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Volker Highways, Kent County Council, Medway Council, London Borough of Bexley, Leeds Castle, Whitefriars, Maidstone Borough Council, Ashford Borough Council, Swale Borough Council and Canterbury City Council.
