FRIENDS of college student Jolene Swift, who lost her life earlier this year to meningitis, are to take part in a sponsored Sportathon on Wednesday (May 29) in her memory.
Tutor Ruth Ridley and students at South Kent College who knew 19-year-old Jolene through a public services course, will be involved in the 12-hour event to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.
Activities will include a gym work out, swimming, volleyball and skiing. There will also be walks between the different sports venues in the district with buckets to collect more cash from the public.
Jolene, who at one time was a Deal Regatta princess, lived at Walmer.
Members of her family have been invited to take part in some of the events and visit the energetic fundraisers during the day. At one time Jolene had been a Deal Regatta princess.
Ryan Cross, an 18-year-old mechanics student at South Kent College, also died from meningitis with days of Jolene. Both died of meningococcal septicaemia.
