Jack Dunning was named boss of the prestigious Turner Contemporary gallery after winning a creative writing competition staged to promote the county’s walk to school campaign.

The 11-year-old, who left Ash, Cartwright and Kelsey Primary School last month, beat hundreds of primary school rivals to the take charge of the art gallery for a day.

Part of his duties included conducting the morning briefing for staff and allocating tasks for the day, reviewing security and checking exhibits on display.

This year the gallery celebrates its fifth birthday and the Be Boss for a Day competition was staged by the KM Charity Team to coincide with the anniversary.

Simon Dolby, Chief Executive of the KM Charity Team said: “It was such a treat for Jack to see behind the scenes at the gallery. He was treated like a VIP by staff at every level in the gallery and learned such a lot. It was a privilege to be part of his special day.”
