Old Kentish farmsteads were the inspiration for new homes that have just won a prestigious design prize.
Horsted Park, by developer Countryside in Chatham, won the completed scheme category of the Housing Design Awards 2014.
The government-backed awards are led by the Royal Institute of British Architects and planning body the RTPI.
Tony Travers, of Countryside, said: “Horsted Park sets the standard for creating a place of character and quality.
“The development has been designed to the highest standards to suit a variety of purchasers from first-time buyers, right through to extra care housing, because we wanted to create a place where people will feel at home.”
Horsted Park occupies the site of the former MidKent College and is close to a Napoleonic fort.
They were designed by Proctor & Matthews architects to reflect the rural Kentish farmsteads, using materials such as textured brick panels, clay tiles and dark wooden boarding.
Some of the houses feature superb fully glazed integral conservatories, while others have glazed gables.
A mix of three and four bedroom houses are available. Prices start at £320,000 for a three-bedroom home and £370,000 for a four-bedroom house.
