A coastal townhouse now on the market is part of an Edwardian home once owned by the Mackeson brewery family.
Stunning panoramic views of the Channel are part of the package at the refurbished mid-terrace townhouse in Hythe, which is priced at £550,000 with Wards.
Hythe’s Mackeson brewery launched a new drink, milk stout, in 1909. Later acquired by Whitbread, the simple marketing slogan was: “It looks good. It tastes good. And by golly, it does you good.” The phrase became part of 1960s advertising history.
Front door leads to lobby and hallway with cloakroom and utility off.
A 16ft x 13ft kitchen/dining room is at the back of the house, with central island and bi-fold doors to a terrace with sea views.
On the first floor is the 16ft x 14ft lounge, which has an original Edwardian fireplace and stunning windows with door opening to the balcony and its coastal view beyond.
Also on the first floor is a bedroom and the family bathroom, with two further bedrooms on the second floor.
On a lower ground floor, once used as the family’s personal beer cellar, is a fourth bedroom, with en suite, a study and an additional reception room.
There’s a sunny terraced garden, a garage and use of a communal car park and it’s just a short walk to Hythe’s High Street, with its interesting shops and cafes, or to the unspoilt seafront.
A good choice of schools is in the area, with two primary schools within half a mile.
Mark Backhurst, of Wards, says: "This Edwardian town house oozes character and charm, has lots of space for a family, amazing sea views and a terraced garden which is bathed in sun for the majority of the day.
"It was once part of a big house owned by the Mackeson family, who operated the old Mackeson brewery in Hythe, hence the former beer cellar. It has been sympathetically restored and has many original features and wonderful views from the kitchen/dining room, the lounge and the master bedroom."
