A former flour mill that has been transformed using second-hand furniture and upcycled materials is up for sale.

The Grade II-listed building, nestled between Sittingbourne and Faversham, was once a prolific working mill and, after almost a decade of work, is now on the market as a family home.

Tonge Mill was purchased by married couple Elvis and Kresse Wesling in 2013, who make and sell sustainable bags made from unwanted materials.

The pair spent £40,000 to make the derelict building, which had 22 rotten windows and no heating or power, inhabitable and filled it with hand-me-downs from friends and family and furniture from car boot sales.

The slate splashbacks in the bathrooms were taken from a roof, the metal lights that hang over the kitchen’s breakfast bar are old buckets that have been turned upside down and the wood-panelled steel bath was found in a skip.

The couple spent 30 hours a week working on the property and finally completed the renovation in 2020. Now, the six-bedroom house is on the market for £1.5 million.

The main house boasts four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a library, which was the mill’s original grinding room and still has the original beams and mechanical parts in the ceiling.
