Life is a curvaceous affair at this old windmill with plenty of stories to tell.
Swingate Mill, at Guston, near Dover, was built in 1849 and ground corn, without interruption, until the second world war. But its sails were damaged during the heavy shelling of this part of Kent, which became known as Hellfire Corner.
The five-storey mill tower survived and is now a beautiful Grade II-listed four-bedroom home, with a detached one-bedroom cottage in the gardens.
In the base of the original windmill is a cosy sitting room, from where the oak staircase heads to the upper floors.
Doors open from this room to an outer ring, built in the 1980s and home to three curved bedrooms, a bespoke curved kitchen/dining room with oak worktops and two bathrooms. On the first floor is a lounge with a 17ft diameter and far-reaching countryside views. A long balcony could easily be added to this floor.
Second floor is a bedroom and above this is a snug. Even the very top floor is used, for storage.
In lawned gardens the cottage has an open-plan living space with a double bedroom and en suite above.
The HS train service leaves from Dover Priory. Swingate Mill has a guide price of £750,000.
