A Grade II listed Kent stately home which dates back to 1327 has had a thoroughly modern makeover to create a series of regal apartments and mews homes for older people.

Georgian mansion Wildernesse House, at Seal, near Sevenoaks, is set in 24 acres of grounds and was once owned by the 1st Marquess of Camden, who Camden Town in London is named after.

In keeping with the marquess' well-documented wining and dining of royalty there, the house has been turned into 23 regal apartments, including four heritage apartments, and next door there are also eight newly-built mews homes, all for 'later life living'.

Residents can enjoy a traditional English country house lifestyle, with ancient parkland and extensive grounds at their disposal, and even a croquet lawn.

Designed for socialising, the main house also has a swimming pool, spa, gym and Pavilion Restaurant which serves locally-sourced seasonal produce.

There is an open plan space, which managers say is the social hub of the house, where residents can entertain friends and neighbours.

Mews Houses start from £625,000, while apartments in the main house cost from £970,000.

Until 2013 the stately home was used as the headquarters for the Royal London Society for the Blind and as housing for the blind and partially sighted children who attended its school.

Elysian Residences acquired the building in 2020 with plans to transform it into a retirement community.
