With an indoor infinity pool and its own teppanyaki grill, Maelstrom House could knock anyone’s socks off. Homes & Living found out more.
Individually designed, Maelstrom House is a juxtaposition of traditional design and 21st-century technology.
The wide front door opens directly into a spacious, stunning entrance hall, with sleek and beautifully crafted stainless steel curved staircase.
Limestone flooring leads from the entrance hall right through the ground floor area. Both the ground and first floors have under-floor heating.
From the hall, two doors lead into the main living areas.
In the kitchen area, a magnificent open-plan space houses a stainless steel kitchen incorporating a two-ring Wolf gas hob, full height Sub Zero fridge and freezer, full height wine fridge, two Wolf electric ovens, Miele microwave, Miele Nespresso coffee machine, larder fridge, two-chiller drawers, warming drawer and stainless steel teppanyaki grill, for cooking Japanese food. A door leads into the preparation kitchen, fully fitted with stainless steel units and two fitted dishwashers.
The kitchen has intelligent and sensitive air conditioning to remove unwanted cooking smells from the remainder of the living area which opens directly from the kitchen.
The full height seating area has a huge west-facing window with central door to the garden; a recessed box fireplace provides an open fire and steps lead up to the dining area, which also has a large west-facing window. Off the dining area is the library, with custom-built bookshelves.
From the dining room a wall of glass with central sliding door leads into the indoor infinity swimming pool, with slate bridge. There is a sauna and steam room. At either end of the pool terrace, a staircase leads down to the state of the art air-conditioned cinema.
A magnificent galleried sitting room with cathedral-style window faces on to the garden.
There are five bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor. The master suite, on the first floor, comprises a huge bedroom with superb dressing room, fully fitted with Tisettanta wall fittings on all four walls.
A door then leads into the en-suite with sunken bath, two limestone infinity basins and a concealed shower cubicle.
At the top of the stairs there is an air-conditioned gym which has a large window overlooking the garden to the rear.
The three remaining bedrooms are all accessed from the landing and each has an en-suite.
Set in a wooded dell, the main area of garden is to the back of the house and is approached down the side of the building past a feature Welsh slate wall.
The back garden offers high levels of privacy and is surrounded by mature conifer and deciduous trees.
A level area of lawn leads directly from a large terraced area.
Pathways lead round to the side of the house where on the northern side there are a series of raised herb beds.
The Welsh slate wall has an integral stainless steel stairway leading up to the wooded area of the garden.
Immediately to the front of the house are garages and the garden store.
