Jobs aplenty at KM Kent Careers Expo
03:12, 29 August 2001
LOOKING for a new career or fancy a change of direction?
The new KM Kent Careers Expo 2001 could be just the job.
Leading employers and careers advisors from across the county will be at this prestigious show in September. It is being held in the Jarvis International Hotel (formerly the Great Danes) at Hollingbourne, near Maidstone. Admission to the two-day show is free.
David James, the Kent Messenger Group's senior advertising manager, said there were plenty of jobs in the county but not enough people to fill them.
The Expo, on September 27 and 28, would try to address the problem, he said. It will also feature talks by careers experts.
"We are trying to bring together employers and people looking for a first career or a change," added Mr James.
The Expo is aimed at all age ranges, but young people looking for a start in life will find much that should help them make that crucial choice of career.
The Army, RAF and Royal Navy will be represented, along with other big employers and recruitment specialist from New Appointments Group.
People interested in going it alone will find help from Business Link Kent, a Government-backed agency that gives advice to wannabe entrepreneurs.
"We hope this will be one of the biggest careers events in Kent," Mr James said. "If we can get it established, we'll make it an annual event."
Details about stands and other aspects of the show are available from Expo co-ordinator Sue Huntley on 01622 794581.
