Jobs hope at steel plant
00:00, 13 August 2004
MORE than 100 jobs could be created at Sheerness steel works next year when a bar rolling mill is installed there.
Keith Plowman, general manager for quality assurance and environment at Thamesteel in Brielle Way, said he was hoped the mill would start operating by June 1 next year.
The previous bar rolling mill was dismantled by Spanish steel makers Celsa when they bought many assets owned by Allied Steel & Wire, the site’s previous owners.
Meanwhile, a freephone number, 0800 1695425, where residents can express their concerns and questions, has been launched and a residents’ forum is being established. Anyone who would like to join should telephone 01795 582227.
