Survey to look at seaside jobless

00:00, 12 April 2002

A SURVEY of people living without employment is being carried out in Thanet. It has been commissioned by Thanet District Council, the Housing Corporation, and the Economic and Social Research Council.

It is part of a study looking at problems and needs in seaside towns.

Researchers will call at all the houses and flats. They will talk to people who do not have jobs because of early retirement, sickness or disability, full-time education, having to care for children or relatives and other reasons.

Project Manager Rachel Ibbotson said: "We think they've got an interesting story to tell and are too often ignored." Interview will take about 10 minutes. Information will be treated confidentially.
