Estate makes it a double for Peugeot

00:00, 12 October 2001

PEUGEOT'S 406 GTX 2.2 HDi Estate has won the title of Caravan Club Towcar of the Year 2002. It is the second time Peugeot cars have been chosen for an accolade by the Caravan Club, after a 406 saloon won in 1997.

The 46 cars entered for the competition were put through their paces over three days at Millbrook proving ground by five driving judges. Each vehicle was assessed on its towing performance with points awarded for traction, stability, braking, acceleration and hill-starts.

Cars were also tested by two separate pairs of judges for user-friendliness and the ability to accommodate passengers comfortably. The new Peugeot 406 HDi boasts 44 per cent more torque than its petrol equivalent and the new model is 33 per cent more fuel-efficient than the petrol-powered version.
