These are some of the things found by the National Salvage Group, a representative trade body for operators in the salvage industry.

In addition to commonly found items such as underwear, sex toys and clothing, more unusual objects have included a wedding dress, a stuffed fox's head and a plastic leg. Perhaps the most amazing was an urn containing ashes, discovered by a car breakers in Exeter, which was never claimed by the owner.

THE RAC has cancelled its annual awards lunch for hoteliers this year and will be using the money to support the UK hospitality industry. Company bosses believe that the devastating effects on the foot and mouth outbreak on the industry make the traditional celebration inappropriate.
