Omega receives sporting boost
00:00, 07 September 2001
VAUXHALL'S flagship Omega range is about to get a fillip with an interesting addition in the shape of the new Omega Sport.
Based on the existing MV6, the Omega Sport benefits from the acclaimed Omega sports chassis. This means the body sits around 15mm lower and on uprated spring and shock absorber settings, complemented by the same imposing 17 inch alloy wheels and ultra low profile Michelin 235/45 R17 tyres.
All the sporting styling touches are there too, both inside and out. Externally the Omega Sport features the same front air dam and discreet rear spoiler as the MV6. On the inside, alloy effect interior trim is put to good use on the centre fascia, door panel and gear lever surround.
The driver and front passenger are hugged by the same sports seats used in the MV6.
The Omega Sport is powered by the venerable 2.2 16v 144PS engine which made its debut in the new Omega. This high torque 2.2 litre petrol engine offers strong performance combined with good economy and refinement: 0-60 mph in 10.2 seconds and a top speed of 131 mph.
Standard equipment includes four airbags, ABS, electronic climate control, high pressure headlamp washers and front fog lights.
Omega Sport is available in saloon or estate versions, priced at £19,995 and £20,995.
