Strike continues to hit cross-Channel travel

PHASE two of Operation Stack was in force on the M20 in Kent again today as a result of continued industrial action at the port of Calais.
The motorway was closed coast-bound between Junctions 8 and 9, causing delays on the A20 Ashford Road due to the build up of diverted traffic.
French riot police yesterday used tear gas to disperse striking French seamen from the Channel Tunnel entrance on Tuesday. The strikers also blockaded berths at the Port of Calais. delays for SeaFrance and P&O ferry services.
The industrial action is in response to discussions in the French Parliament on changes to shipping laws.
P&O bosses they they will be operating ferries today but they will be subject to delays. SeaFrance has cancelled its Dover-Calais services because of the strike. It is hoped sailings will resume tomorrow.
