National Lottery offers last of free £25 theatre tokens through Love Theatre website
09:28, 11 May 2023
Theatre fans are being given one final chance to get £25 off their next show – all for the price of a lottery ticket.
Theatre Tokens first joined forces with The National Lottery in March to offer players a free £25 theatre voucher.
With now close to a million tokens having been given away, on Thursday morning it will release its final batch of £25 vouchers.
All that is needed to claim a voucher is a Lotto, Scratchcard or Instant Win Game ticket - where prices start from just £1 - which can come from either a recent purchase or an old ticket you still have from playing a game in 2023.
Those with a relevant ticket must enter the first four or five digits of the ticket number - that appear before the first hyphen - along with an email address into the Love Your Local Theatre website in order to be sent a voucher.
One voucher per lottery ticket and email address is available - and it can be spent at more than 300 participating theatres.
The final batch of theatre tokens will be released at 11am on May 11.
In a message organisers explained: “We know the demand for the Love Your Local Theatre campaign has been high. If you visit LoveYourLocalTheatre.com any time until 11am tomorrow you will be put in a waiting room.
“Then at 11am when the new batch of vouchers go live, everyone in the waiting room will be randomly assigned a number in the queue. For everyone who joins the waiting room before 11am, this place in the queue will be entirely at random - anyone joining after 11am will be added to the back of the queue.”
The £25 vouchers will be accepted under the same system that local theatres accept theatre tokens - so it is advised budding theatre goers are sure of this process before booking a show they wish to see using their £25 discount.
The campaign is acting as a thank you to National Lottery players who raise £30 million every week for good causes, including support for the performing arts and theatres during the pandemic. The giveaway is also aimed at helping theatres through the current cost-of-living crisis with £1 million of theatre vouchers available to National Lottery players.
