Two huge events on Romney Marsh have been pushed back until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The New Romney Country Fayre - typically attended by thousands of people - was cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid-19 outbreak and will also not return this year.

It was scheduled for July but the committee behind the event say they have been advised to postpone it again.

A statement said: "We are extremely sorry to announce that we have had to cancel the 2021 New Romney Country Fayre, scheduled for Saturday, July 31.

"Although we had hoped to be able to stage the event in some form this year, the advice we have received this week from the Safety Advisory Group and NHS England is that the date falls too close to the lifting of Covid restrictions on 21st June.

"Therefore, permission for the staging the Fayre would not be granted due to concerns surrounding social distancing and control of visitor numbers."

The date of the 2022 fair will be Saturday, July 30.

Dance festival Connected, which was held at Lydd Airport in 2019, has also been postponed until 2022.

Organisers had hoped it would go ahead this year but have now re-arranged the plans.

It will take place over the May bank holiday weekend, on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.

A spokesman said: "Our primary focus has been to ensure that Connected Festival will return to Lydd, as safely as possible, without doubt or hesitation.

"Whilst the roadmap was a positive step in the right direction, we are much more confident in being able to bring you a bigger and better event on the May bank holiday dates, at a time where we feel more assured and more importantly, we will be allowed to run without any kind of disruption or restrictions."

The team say a move to May has allowed them to "secure and improve what already is a fantastic line up".

All tickets for this year's event will be automatically transferred to next year's.

The first Connected festival saw 6,000 people party from 6pm to 6am at the airport, watching hundreds of acts across several stages.
