Motorcyclist who died at scene of crash near A259 Hammonds Corner, Romney Marsh, named

The motorcyclist who died in a crash has been named.
Rodger Smith, a father of two from Hawkinge, died at the scene of the incident one mile south of the junction with the A259 Hammonds Corner on the Romney Marsh on Wednesday, April 19.
Mr Smith, 62, was riding a grey Yamaha motorcycle when he was involved in a crash with a white Volkswagen Tiguan at 4.14pm.
Both vehicles were travelling towards New Romney at the time.
The air ambulance landed in a field nearby but the Mr Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed in both directions while police and paramedics dealt with the incident. It was reopened more than three hours later.
Police are now appealing for witnesses and particularly want to speak to people in a pick-up truck believed to be a grey Ford Ranger that was travelling from Lydd towards Hammonds Corner at the time of the crash.
A spokesman from the force said they were not involved in the accident, but may have important information regarding what happened.
