Firefighters rushed to an area of an army firing range which caught light.

Crews were called to "rough terrain well alight" on Lydd Ranges.

They were there for just over two hours yesterday afternoon tackling the blaze and bringing it under control.

The blaze in the grassland area measuring 150m by 100m was put out using flexi packs, beaters, a hose reel jet and a fogging unit.

Four fire engines and Kent Fire and Rescue Service's bulk water carrier were sent to the scene at 3.30pm but stood down shortly after 5.30pm.

It is not yet known exactly how the fire started or whether the Ministry of Defence was using the land for training at the time of the fire.
