Coastguard crews were called to rescue a boat which had lost power after colliding with a Second World War temporary harbour.

The Dungeness coastguard team were sent to the vessel off the coast of Littlestone on Romney Marsh.

It had collided with the Mulberry Harbour, a portable temporary harbour developed by the British in the Second World War to rapidly offload cargo onto beaches during the invasion of Normandy.

The boat was taking on water, and the decision was made to tow the vessel and beach it at Littlestone.

The owner was found safe and well, and made arrangements for his ship to be repaired.

Littlestone Lifeboat Station was also requested to launch and assist with the vessel after it became stranded just before 5.15pm on Tuesday night.

Coastguards were assessing and monitoring the watercraft until last night.
