Cat rescued during fire at house in Tritton Gardens Dymchurch

Firefighters rescued a cat during a fire at a house in Dymchurch.

They used a thermal imaging camera to pinpoint the exact location of the blaze, which broke out in a kitchen at the rear of the semi-detached property in Tritton Gardens.

Two teams wearing breathing apparatus went into the house and while one put out the fire using a hose reel jet, the other searching for the missing cat, which was rescued and brought to safety.

The fire started at around 7.20pm and crews are still said to be at the scene ventilating the property to clear the smoke and fumes.

Speaking at 9pm, a fire service spokesman said: "One fire engine has now left the scene.

"The blaze caused fire damage to 70% of the kitchen and the hall was heavily smoke damaged."

An electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks was also called to the scene
