Children's mammouth eating contest
00:00, 22 August 2002
THERE may be a few poorly tummies this weekend with dozens of children across the Romney Marsh taking part in a jelly and ice cream eating competition.
The event is being held on Sunday at Brookland village hall from noon until 4pm, with youngsters from Brenzett, Old Romney, Ivychurch, St Mary's in the Marsh, Burmarsh and Newchurch taking part.
Each village has been asked to supply a team of 20 children to take part in the contest.
The chairman of Shepway District Council, Cllr Fred Wood-Brignall, will present medals and trophies to the winners.
The children have been busy collecting sponsors for the event. Money raised by each group to be spent in their village on events, trips and children's activities.
On the same day there will be a boot fair in the village hall gardens. Anyone who would like to book a stall should telephone 01797 344 006.
