A pub formerly run by the Mayor of Lydd suffered a chimney fire.
It happened at the Royal Mail in the town’s Park Street at about 6.55pm yesterday.
Fire crews used a ladder to reach the fire, put it out and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots and fire spread.
Their task was finished in just under 40 minutes.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it gave the owner advice about the type of logs being burned and the importance of regular sweeping and inspection of chimney.
The pub had been run by Lydd Mayor Tom Dawes for exactly four years until last October 22.
He said during his time the chimney had last been swept last February .
New landlord Craig Bull said: “It was just a small overload and the fire brigade were able to deal with it.”
He said there was no need for an evacuation.
KFRS said that homeowners and businesses can sign up to its clean sweep alert, which will send out free email reminders to tell people to get their chimneys swept.
