Shed fire at Lydd Station believed to have been started deliberately
14:28, 31 October 2023
A shed fire near a derelict railway station is believed to have been started deliberately.
Crews were called just after 2.30pm yesterday following reports of the building off Harden Road in Lydd, Romney Marsh, being alight.
One fire engine was sent to the scene and the blaze was put out by 2.48pm, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.
Lydd railway station opened in 1881, with trains running until 1967, when the line was closed to passengers.
Good services continued until 1971, meaning the site has been out of use for more than 50 years. Last year, the abandoned station was hit by a fire, leaving it in ruins.
