Since then the flag has been displayed as a painting at the Sainsbury’s car park in New Romney.

It has images typifying the Marsh such as the New Romney’s St Nicholas Church tower, the two Dungeness lighthouses, a fishing boat, a Martello Tower and a Romney breedsheep, a kingfisher and a heron.

Although it is not being officially launched until next month’s Fayre, 200 of the 300 made have already been bought by eager members of the public.

Briony Kapoor creative director of IMOS, said: “It has been a marvellous success already and we are going to have to make more.

“One man said he wanted to be buried in it. I was taken aback at first but then touched. It shows the strong feelings people have for the Marsh.”

The IMOS Foundation, is behind several striking artworks in Romney Marsh.

Mrs Kapoor, who will formally open the Fayre, has also become a town councillor after this May’s elections.
